INNOVATION IN TRAVEL INSURANCE: OPPORTUNITIES AND OBLIGATIONS

Innovation is no longer a choice in today’s insurance world. Digitisation and rapidly emerging technologies allow insurers to create bespoke insurance offerings and bring to market ground-breaking protection products at an unprecedented pace. And this is disrupting the travel insurance marketplace in exciting ways. In this session, Innovate THIS chair Chris Frankland, Founder of InsurTech360, will be in conversation with Matt Connolly, CEO of Sønr Global, discussing insurtech and fintech trends, the importance of innovation, and how to start – or accelerate – your tech-led journey.

TRAVEL INSURANCE AND DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION: ARE WE MEETING CUSTOMER EXPECTATIONS?

Panellist: Joyce Segall, Pattern

Continuously evolving technology is changing the way travel insurance is bought and serviced – but do technology providers know what insurers really want, and are insurers considering what the consumer wants?

This session will explore the latest tech trends shaping today’s travel insurance ecosystem, look at how to decide on the best technology for your business, and assess how tech providers and insurers can better work together.

We’ll also be asking how far we should go when it comes to travel insurance product innovation and to what extent differentiation is friend or foe.

DIGITAL NOMADS AND THE ART OF INSURANCE INNOVATION

Presenter: Gal Levy, Head of Engineering, Faye

In today’s work-from-anywhere culture, insurers have had to adapt to new customer requirements to provide coverage for those working away from their home country for extended periods of time. We’ll be in conversation with some of the world’s leading providers of protection products and services for globally remote workers – to find out how they’ve overcome regulatory challenges in order to provide relevant and fit-for-purpose insurance for this demographic. We’ll be discussing why mobile workforces need our further attention. And we’ll be talking about how best to help corporates meet evolving duty of care obligations relating to their overseas employees.

MEET THE ENABLERS: USE CASES IN TRAVEL AND HEALTH INSURANCE – PART 1

Presenter: Paul Fondie, Global Industry Principal - Insurance, Mendix

These mini talks will showcase innovative technology being harnessed by the global travel and health insurance industry – to provide an insight into the digital evolution of this marketplace. Through dual presentations – with both the insurer or assistance provider, and the ‘enabler’ – attendees will learn how different technologies work in practice to solve real-life industry challenges. How is technology making the complex simple? What exciting tech solutions are shaping today’s travel and health insurance industry? And what’s the ROI?

COMBATTING FRAUD IN DATA AGE: INFORMATION SHARING, AI AND OVERCOMING REGULATORY HURDLES

Presenter: Helen Briant, Partner Commercial Litigation, Trowers & Hamlins

Travel and health insurance has traditionally been seen as a soft target for fraudsters, but access to big data and innovative technology is changing that. This presentation will assess the impact of economic downturn on people’s propensity to commit fraud, look at data and information sharing across the insurance ecosystem, and give insights on industry-changing fraud detection technology.

THE FUTURE OF MOBILITY

Presenter: Manjit Rana, Co-founder & CEO, InsurTech Scout
With the advent of flying cars and driverless motorhomes, travel risks are taking on a whole new dimension. What’s next when it comes to traveller mobility? How can insurers take an innovative approach to underwriting the risks associated with tomorrow’s modes of transport? And how could assistance services adapt to the opportunities that come with a new world of travel?

WORKSHOPS

There will be two workshop tracks at Innovate THIS:

Deliver Better Innovation Outcomes

Hosted by: Harvey Wade, Innovate21

This fast-paced, collaborative workshop will enable delegates to: recognise their innovation mindset, strengths and bias; understand how they show up in the innovation lifecycle, and determine the ‘job of innovation’ for their organisation.

Using the Six I’s Innovation model, attendees will identify their innovation strengths and when they best show up, understanding how their strengths help, but could hinder. Helpful for individuals, and incredibly insightful for leaders to drive innovation outcomes.

Attendees will then be introduced to three frameworks that move innovation from an outcome to ‘an enabler’. Using innovation as a strategic imperative, the frameworks identify and prioritise innovation focus areas, determine the innovation portfolio horizons, and introduce a 5-pillar approach to identify sources of the innovation required. Attendees will leave with practical approaches that can be immediately applied.

Navigating Payments in Travel Insurance

Hosted by: Ian Kerr and Krisitna Beckwith, Episode Six

A workshop to equip attendees with the skills to understand current innovations and trends in the global payments industry. This interactive workshop will discuss these broader trends in payments, the state of play in the travel insurance sector right now, what a ‘future state’ may look like, and potential strategies to navigate the way forward. Cut through payments jargon, learn about options for upgrading legacy technology, and navigate cross-border payments issues. What do travellers want and need when it comes to buying insurance and making claims? We’ll be exploring this – and discussing what’s possible.

HOW PAYMENTS ARE WINNING THE CUSTOMER SATISFACTION ENDGAME

Oliver Werneyer, Founder & CEO, Imburse

Travel and health insurers face unique challenges when it comes to making payments to international insureds. This session will give an overview of current and emerging options for cross-border payments and claims settlements. Address how payments companies are tackling key pain points for insurers faced with serving the ‘now’ generation. And look at why it matters – with a focus on the importance of understanding your customers’ emotional journey in order to deliver an enhanced customer experience and benefit from improved customer loyalty.

CAN TRAVEL INSURERS REALLY MAKE CLAIMS THEIR SUPERPOWER?

Moderator: Jennifer Milton, Biolytica

This session will take a thought-provoking look at claims transformation in travel insurance – and assess how far we’ve come in terms of business efficiencies, fraud prevention, and meeting customer expectations. How can your claims process shape your value proposition? How do we overcome current challenges in this field? And how can we better work together to restore customers’ faith in the claims process?

MEET THE ENABLERS: USE CASES IN TRAVEL AND HEALTH INSURANCE – PART 2

Moderator: Manjit Rana, Co-founder & CEO, InsurTech Scout

Panelists:
Phil McGriskin, Chief Executive Officer, Vitesse PSP
John Campbell, Managing Director & Founder, Rabbit & Pork
Monique Hesseling, Managing Director of Insurance, Cloudera
Gibson Nascimento, Head of EMEA, Sensedia

These mini talks will showcase innovative technology being harnessed by the travel and health insurance industry – to provide an insight into the digital evolution of this marketplace.

EMBEDDED INSURANCE: BREAKING NEW GROUND

Moderator: Yuri Poletto, Founder, Open & Embedded Insurance Observatory

Panelists:
Louise Robertson, Global Marketing Director, Pattern Insurance
Graeme Dean, Vice-President Global Insurance Solutions, Cover Genius
Affinity partnerships have long been a prime source of revenue for travel insurers, but with more sophisticated technologies and smoother integrations, truly embedded insurance is booming. Our panel will explore the digital evolutions that are making this possible, discuss the benefits and challenges of embedded insurance, look at the impetus behind the proliferation of integrated insurance offerings, and assess linked opportunities for travel insurers to scale their distribution.

ADOPTING AN EXPERIENCE MINDSET

Hosted By: Tom Ross, Senior Account Manager, Armadillo
Customer attraction and retention are just two of the drivers behind the seismic shift towards customer-first design in insurance. In this session, we’ll hear how travel insurers are reaping the benefits of investing in the enhancement of their customer experience (CX) and user experience (UX) approach. And we’ll be answering questions such as: How do today’s travellers want to buy trip cover? What do they want the claims process to look like? How are insurers meeting these desires? How can travel insurers go beyond customer expectations to build trust and loyalty among consumers?
